چکیده
Using direct numerical simulations of rotating Rayleigh-B\'enard convection, we explore the transitions between turbulent states from a 3D flow state towards quasi-2D condensate known as large-scale vortex (LSV). We vary Rayleigh number $Ra$ control parameter and study system response (strength LSV) in terms order parameters assessing energetic content upscale energy flux. By sensitively probing boundaries region existence LSV space, find discontinuous identify presence hysteresis loop well memoryless abrupt growth dynamics. show furthermore that creation coincides with transition transport into largest mode system.

Vortex lattice transitions in cyclic spinor condensates.
We study the energetics of vortices and vortex lattices produced by rotation in the cyclic phase of F=2 spinor condensates. In addition to the familiar triangular lattice predicted by Tkachenko for 4He, many more complex lattices appear in this system as a result of the spin degree of freedom. In particular, we predict a magnetic-field-driven transition from a triangular lattice to a honeycomb ...
متن کاملEnergy spectrum of buoyancy-driven turbulence.
Using high-resolution direct numerical simulation and arguments based on the kinetic energy flux Π(u), we demonstrate that, for stably stratified flows, the kinetic energy spectrum E(u)(k)∼k(-11/5), the potential energy spectrum E(θ)(k)∼k(-7/5), and Π(u)(k)∼k(-4/5) are consistent with the Bolgiano-Obukhov scaling. This scaling arises due to the conversion of kinetic energy to the potential ener...
متن کاملShell model for buoyancy-driven turbulence.
In this paper we present a unified shell model for stably stratified and convective turbulence. Numerical simulation of this model for stably stratified flow shows Bolgiano-Obukhbov scaling in which the kinetic energy spectrum varies as k(-11/5). The shell model of convective turbulence yields Kolmogorov's spectrum. These results are consistent with the energy flux and energy feed due to buoyan...
